$6.00
Deep Beyond #1
Publisher: Image Comics — Virgin Edition
Pencil / ink art only — no colours — no cover text
Condition: pre-owned, light wear, good shape
A hauntingly beautiful, textural virgin edition cover rendered entirely in pencil and ink — no colours, no logos, no cover text — just raw linework at its most expressive and immersive! At the centre of the frame: a female astronaut — compact and helmeted — her rounded helmet dome filling the lower centre — a bold square emblem on the front of the helmet — short-cut hair visible through the visor — wide eyes calm and searching — the full suit rendered in intricate crosshatched detail — ribbed joints and segmented armour across the shoulders and arms — body slightly curled — floating or drifting — and surrounding her on all sides: a mass of enormous alien organic forms — vast tentacle-like limbs curling and reaching from every edge — the surfaces covered in round sucker spots — the upper right dominated by a massive hollow vortex or mouth-like opening — ringed and dark — pulling inward — and beneath: sweeping wave-like organic ridges rolling across the lower frame — bubbles and droplets scattered throughout. The entire composition drawn in meticulous graphite pencil — cool grey tones — deep shadows built with dense hatching — intimate and vast at the same time. A collector’s piece.
A great pick for Image Comics collectors, virgin cover hunters, and anyone who appreciates exceptional pencil illustration craft. Light wear, good shape.
